Polling for 105 municipal bodies in Punjab, including eight municipal corporations, is set for May 26, according to State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhury. Election results will be announced on May 29.

Chaudhury disclosed the details during a media briefing, highlighting the municipal corporations involved: Mohali, Bathinda, Abohar, Barnala, Kapurthala, Moga, Batala, and Pathankot. Additionally, elections will take place for 76 municipal councils and 21 Nagar Panchayats, encompassing a total of 2,019 wards across the 105 municipal bodies.

With the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect. According to Chaudhury, there are 3,672,932 registered voters for these municipal bodies, which include 1,773,716 women voters. The polling will be conducted at 3,977 stations, operating from 8 AM to 5 PM.

The election schedule includes a timeline for candidates. Filing of nominations will start on May 13, with the deadline set for May 16. Scrutiny of nomination papers will occur on May 18, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 19.

To ensure safety and security during the elections, over 35,000 personnel from the Punjab Police will be deployed, as noted by Chaudhury.
