Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has publicly rejected a statement misattributed to him that circulated on social media. The remark, originally in Hindi, claimed, “If a society, even after producing IAS, IPS, CJI, President, and PM from its ranks, still chooses to remain exploited, then the fault lies not with the Brahmins but with its own mentality.”

Describing the situation as “vile, brazen and mischievous,” Chief Justice Kant emphasized the seriousness of the issue in a statement to PTI. He denounced the creation of the fabricated quote, stating, “To manufacture a fictitious quote, and to attribute it to the highest judicial office of the land, is an act of rank dishonesty, deliberate social incitement, and contempt for constitutional values.”

He further asserted that such actions undermine public trust in the judiciary and the rule of law. Kant labeled the claims as “wholly baseless, malicious, and demonstrably false.” In light of this incident, he urged media organizations and citizens to exercise caution against the spread of misinformation, calling for responsible sharing of information. The Office of the Chief Justice of India stressed the importance of refraining from amplifying false and contrived content.
