Lucknow Super Giants Edge Out Royal Challengers Bengaluru by Nine Runs
Lucknow: In an intense clash at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) triumphed over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by nine runs in their IPL 2026 encounter, which experienced multiple rain interruptions. Australia’s Mitchell Marsh showcased an impressive performance, scoring 111 runs off 56 balls. Despite his new opening partner, Arshin Kulkarni, struggling at the crease, Marsh delivered a commanding performance until Nicholas Pooran joined him.
Pooran contributed a swift 38 runs from 23 balls, while LSG captain Rishabh Pant made a statement with an explosive unbeaten 32 runs off just 10 balls. Pant’s form had been under scrutiny this season, raising concerns about his place in the lineup, but he responded effectively, helping Lucknow finish with a total of 209 runs in 19 overs. RCB’s bowlers faced challenges throughout the match, continuing a trend of underwhelming performances following a prior defeat to Gujarat Titans.
What Occurred in the Second Innings?
Entering the second innings as favorites, given their strong batting lineup, RCB faced a sudden shift in momentum following the loss of two quick wickets. England’s Jacob Bethell was dismissed for just four runs, while Virat Kohli fell to pacer Prince Yadav after a delivery that struck the top of the off-stump.
Following their departures, Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar stabilized the innings, forging a partnership of 95 runs. However, the dismissal of Padikkal for 34 runs led to a rapid decline in RCB’s batting order. Jitesh Sharma failed to make an impact, scoring only one run, and Patidar was soon dismissed after scoring 61 runs.
The weight of the innings then fell upon Tim David and Krunal Pandya. David played a remarkable innings, scoring 40 runs off 17 balls, but could not secure victory for his team. Although Pandya and Romario Shepherd managed to increase the pressure on Lucknow, they ultimately fell short. Prince Yadav was instrumental for Lucknow, taking three wickets during the match.
With this victory, Lucknow secured their third win of the season, keeping their playoff hopes alive, while RCB faced their second consecutive defeat. Notably, Punjab Kings have also experienced back-to-back losses after a strong start to the season, mirroring RCB’s current struggles.
