Mumbai Indians Defeat Lucknow Super Giants, Keep IPL 2026 Playoff Hopes Alive

New Delhi: The 47th match of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) featured the Mumbai Indians hosting the Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium on May 4th. Mumbai Indians secured a convincing victory, bolstered by outstanding performances from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton.

Winning the toss, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) chose to bat first but faced an early setback with Josh Inglis departing for just 13 runs. Despite this, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran delivered significant contributions, stabilizing the innings. Marsh scored 44 runs off 25 balls, while Pooran shone brightly with a blistering 63 runs from just 21 deliveries, marking a return to form. Aiden Markram remained unbeaten at 31 runs from 25 balls, and Himmat Singh added 40 not out from 31 balls, leading LSG to a total of 228 runs in the first innings.

For Mumbai, Corbin Bosch emerged as the leading wicket-taker with two dismissals. AM Ghazanfar, Will Jacks, and Raghu Sharma each claimed one wicket as well.

Rohit Sharma’s heroics secure victory for MI

In reply, Mumbai Indians began their chase with an impressive opening partnership from Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma, who scored 83 and 84 runs, respectively. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav contributed modestly with scores of 11 and 12, while Naman Dhir and Will Jacks added 23 and an unbeaten 10 runs, respectively, helping MI to comfortably chase the target.

Manimaran Siddharth was the top wicket-taker for LSG with two wickets, and both Mohammed Shami and Mohsin Khan added one wicket each to their tally. Mumbai successfully chased down the target in 18.4 overs, winning the match by six wickets and marking their third victory in ten matches this season.
