Samsung Galaxy S26+ Review: A Dependable Device That Stays Within the Comfort Zone

This year, the Galaxy S26 triplets offer a compelling combination of AI capabilities, photography features, and overall functionality. Among them, the Galaxy S26+ appears to strike the best balance between the flagship S26 Ultra and the standard S26. The following review highlights key aspects of the S26+.

Design

The Galaxy S26+ presents itself similarly to the S26 Ultra, featuring a flat display with elegantly rounded edges. It is only upon closer inspection, specifically when tapping the lower edge, that it becomes clear this model lacks a stylus. With dimensions measuring 158.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm, the device is slim and fits comfortably in pockets. Weighing 190 grams, it provides enough heft to feel substantial without being burdensome.

The colour option, Cobalt Violet, offers a refined lavender-inspired aesthetic that distinguishes it from standard Black, as well as exclusive Silver Shadow and Pink Gold variants available on Samsung.com. However, this finish tends to attract fingerprints, with oil smudges becoming visible against the violet surface. Additionally, the protruding camera rings can cause instability when the device is placed on flat surfaces, making usability on tables or desks challenging without a case.

Display

Featuring a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, the Galaxy S26+ boasts a sharp QHD+ resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels. With a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a 16 million color depth, the screen delivers the seamless motion and vibrant accuracy associated with high-end flagships.

As an AMOLED display, it excels for media consumption; for instance, watching shows like The Rookie or Extraction 2 felt immersive, with the screen rendering colors, skin tones, and deep blacks effectively on its near-bezel-less design.

Sound

The dual speaker system provides decent audio performance, although it struggles at higher volumes. Sound quality remains clear and well-defined up to around 66% volume, but exceeding this level compromises detail and flattens the audio profile. Given the S26+’s premium price point, the lack of a fuller soundstage may be seen as a missed opportunity for delivering a flagship audio experience.

Performance

Powered by the Samsung Exynos 2600, the same flagship-tier processor utilized in the standard S26, the Galaxy S26+ achieved an impressive AnTuTu benchmark score of 2,650,982, positioning it between the OnePlus 15R (2,713,712) and the realme GT 7 (2,445,477).

Gaming experiences, including titles like Rainbow 6 Mobile and BGMI, were smooth at 60FPS, with no noticeable frame stuttering. While the device did generate some heat during 4K video filming and gaming, thermal management remained adequate in Chennai’s warm climate, albeit not ideal for intensive users.

The Galaxy AI featured in the S26+, similar to the S26 Ultra, presents refined functionality. The Audio Eraser effectively removes background noise from videos captured with the phone, as well as from external sources such as YouTube. AI Call Screening identifies unknown callers in real-time and queries them about their intentions, while live translation has widened its language support and operates across third-party VoIP applications, enhancing real-time voice translation capabilities. These features functioned smoothly on the device.

The “Nudge” feature offers timely suggestions based on context, like meeting reminders or traffic-based routing, while “Now Brief” creates personalized morning or evening briefings summarizing schedules, unread emails, and pertinent news—tasks beneficial for users on the go.

Camera

The Galaxy S26+ is equipped with a versatile triple-camera setup, led by a 50MP main sensor with a fast f/1.8 aperture, complemented by Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Dual Pixel Autofocus. The configuration also includes a 10MP 3x optical telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens.

Rear camera photos exhibited vibrant colors and reasonable contrast. However, sharpness in the telephoto and ultra-wide images was average when zoomed in, losing quality past 4.5x magnification. Nighttime photographs produced adequate resolution but exhibited slight noise, making them suitable for social media sharing.

Video capabilities shine with 8K recording at 30fps and improved stabilization. The Horizon Lock feature keeps the horizon steady during video captures, a significant advantage for action-oriented videography. During testing, it proved effective in maintaining a leveled horizon, marking a positive aspect of the device.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S26+ houses a 4,900 mAh battery, providing sufficient power for a full day of use, including calls, messages, internet browsing, gaming, and video playback, with around 12% remaining before charging.

Although the box lacks a charger, it includes a charging cable. On average, it took approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to recharge using an old 25-watt charger. The device supports charging up to 45W, allowing a complete charge in under an hour with the appropriate charger.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S26+ showcases a premium design and impressive performance, complemented by a vibrant AMOLED display ideal for content consumption. Coupled with OneUI 8 and advanced Galaxy AI features, it serves as an attractive option in the market.

However, at ₹1,19,000, the pricing may be considered excessive for a plus-sized phone that competes with flagship models like the iPhone 17 Pro, Google Pixel 10 Pro XL, and vivo X300 Pro, which excel in areas such as camera quality and battery life where the S26+ may seem lacking. For those seeking a larger device and willing to overlook camera and battery performance, the Samsung Galaxy S26+ could still be a worthy consideration.

Snapshot

Price: ₹1,19,999.

Pros: Excellent display, premium design, advanced AI features.

Cons: Average camera performance, battery life, perceived overpricing.
