MEA Denounces Terror Attacks in Mali, Urges for Enhanced Regional Stability Measures

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the “terrorist attacks” that occurred in Mali, targeting multiple locations. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the MEA stated, “India strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in Mali targeting multiple locations. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and express our solidarity with the Government and people of Mali in this difficult time. We also express our sincere condolences on the demise of General Sadio Camara, Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs of Mali, in the terror attack.”

The ministry reiterated India’s firm commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and emphasized support for efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Mali is experiencing its largest coordinated militant attack in over a decade, with assaults claimed by groups linked to al-Qaida and Tuareg separatists on key locations, including Bamako’s airport, the Kati garrison town, and several cities in the north and central regions. A reported car bomb attack led to the death of the defence minister, while insurgents have taken control of the strategic northern city of Kidal. This rise in violence reflects a significant decline in security, despite military support from Russia, as insurgents intensify their operations and undermine state authority across the country.
