For the first time, eradicating malaria within our lifetime is a tangible possibility. Advancements in vaccines, treatments, and malaria control tools, alongside innovative technologies such as the genetic modification of mosquitoes and long-acting injectable medicines, are currently being developed. Presently, 25 countries have initiated the rollout of malaria vaccines, aimed at protecting 10 million children annually. Moreover, next-generation mosquito nets now constitute 84 percent of all newly distributed nets. Nationally-led programs are also driving significant change, marking an unprecedented opportunity in the fight against malaria.

On World Malaria Day, April 25, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners are launching the campaign titled “Driven to end malaria: Now we can. Now we must.” This initiative serves as a call to action to seize the moment, emphasizing the urgent need to protect lives and secure funding towards a malaria-free future.
