NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed relief on Sunday regarding the safety of U.S. President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance following a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“Relieved to learn that President Trump, the First Lady, and Vice President are safe and unharmed following the recent security incident at a Washington D.C. hotel. I extend my best wishes for their continued safety and well-being. Violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned,” Modi stated on X.

The shooting took place during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton, where an armed man attempted to breach security near the main screening area. He opened fire, striking a Secret Service agent; however, the officer was shielded by a bullet-resistant vest and sustained no serious injuries.

Panic ensued within the crowded hall as hundreds of guests ducked under tables while security personnel responded swiftly. The United States Secret Service apprehended the suspect promptly, ensuring that all top officials, including Trump, were safely evacuated.
