Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation at 8:30 pm on Saturday. The content of the address remains unclear at this time.
This speech follows a significant setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the Lok Sabha, where the Constitution Amendment Bill related to the Women’s Reservation policy failed to achieve the necessary approval. The proposed bill, which sought to implement women’s reservations through delimitation, required a two-thirds majority but did not succeed after extensive and contentious debate.
During the voting, 298 members supported the bill, while 230 opposed it, resulting in its defeat. This marked an unusual legislative loss for the government concerning a key reform that had been a priority.
Modi’s previous address to the nation took place on September 21, when he discussed reforms related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
