Rahul Gandhi’s Captivating Jab at Centre Over Delimitation Debate Centers on the Number 16

NEW DELHI: On Friday, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, led a vigorous debate concerning the tabling of the Women’s Reservation Bill. During his address to the lower house, he cryptically referenced the “number 16” multiple times without providing explicit clarity on its significance.

Despite facing frequent interruptions from members of the ruling party, Rahul concluded his speech by reiterating his mention of “number 16.” He remarked, “Yesterday, I was watching the Prime Minister speak. Low energy, disconnected, nothing was coming through. Then I noticed it was the 16th of April.” He elaborated, “It felt like there was panic while pushing this bill. I looked at my phone and saw the date — 16. And I thought, this is the number. The whole answer to the riddle is in the number 16. Everything is in the number 16. Now if anybody understands what I am saying, please, send me a message.”

Following his remarks, the official Congress party account on X tweeted, “Puzzle for all of you: Yesterday, the Prime Minister was low on energy. Suddenly, I noticed it was the 16th of April. My God, how crazy! The number: Sixteen (Sixteen sounds a lot like Epstein, doesn’t it?)”

Earlier in his speech, Rahul Gandhi referred to Prime Minister Modi as a “magician,” which provoked sharp reactions from senior BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and Om Birla. He stated, “Magician of Operation Sindoor, Balakot has been caught,” suggesting a collusion between the government and the business sector: “Everybody knows there is a partnership between the magician and the businessman.”

Rahul also claimed, “There is a central confusion in the minds of the people of the BJP. You aren’t the people of India or the armed forces. Stop hiding like cowards behind the armed forces and the people of India.” These remarks were made during deliberations on the Women’s Reservation Bill and its connection to delimitation.

He argued that the bill focused less on enhancing women’s representation and more on political restructuring through the redrawing of electoral constituencies. Rahul expressed concerns that the proposed delimitation could alter the electoral landscape in a manner favorable to the ruling BJP, potentially undermining existing social justice frameworks. He warned that this move could diminish the political influence of backward communities and marginalized groups.

Opposition parties have raised alarms that linking the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill with delimitation might have broader ramifications for federal balance, regional representation, and caste-based political participation.
