Sameer Rizvi’s IPL 2026 Price: What to Expect for Delhi Capitals Batter

Delhi Capitals were 21/2 in the fourth over when Sameer Rizvi came out to bat in the game against Lucknow Super Giants as an impact player in the 5th match of IPL 2026 on Wednesday. In the next six deliveries, the Capitals were reduced to 26/4 and were in deep trouble, chasing 142 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

But Rizvi had other ideas. With no pressure of the required run-rate, he soaked in all the pressure, took his time, and then unleashed an array of strokes to take his team home with 17 balls in hand in the end comfortably. He remained unbeaten on 70 off 47 deliveries with five fours and four sixes and stitched an unbeaten stand of 119 runs for the fifth wicket as DC registered their first points on the board.

To think that Rizvi wasn’t even in the playing XI or impact player list of many cricket experts and analysts makes this performance even more special. As far as his salary is concerned, Sameer Rizvi was retained by Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2026 auction. The franchise had secured his services for Rs 95 lakh and he is earning the same amount even in this season.

A crucial season for Sameer Rizvi

Notably, Delhi Capitals won the bidding war with the Chennai Super Kings to pick him up last year. For the unversed, it was the CSK franchise that splurged Rs 8.4 crore for Sameer Rizvi in IPL 2024. But he got only 43 deliveries to play across eight matches (five innings) and he scored only 51 runs.

CSK released him after one season but made an unsuccessful attempt to get him back at a lesser price before DC snapped Rizvi up where he is faring decently as well. In four innings in IPL 2025, the 22-year-old scored 121 runs at a strike rate of 153.16 and looks primed to finally get more chances at number four this season.

After facing 43 and 79 deliveries in the last two IPL seasons, Sameer Rizvi faced 47 deliveries in DC’s opening game alone which suggests that the ongoing IPL edition will be massive for him and his career. He has started extremely well and it remains to be seen if he will continue in the same vein.
