Bulawayo (Zimbabwe): Over the past year, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has set numerous records with his impressive batting across various age-group formats. He has gained recognition not only in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but also as a key player for India A and the Under-19 team. As the U19 World Cup commences today in Zimbabwe and Namibia, the 14-year-old is poised to potentially surpass Virat Kohli’s significant record in Youth One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Suryavanshi requires just six runs to eclipse Kohli’s total of 978 runs in U19 ODI cricket. Kohli achieved this in 25 innings (28 matches), maintaining an average of 46.57, including one century and six fifties. In contrast, Suryavanshi has amassed 973 runs in just 18 innings, boasting an exceptional average of 54.05, which includes three centuries and four half-centuries.

Additionally, Suryavanshi is 27 runs shy of reaching the milestone of 1000 runs in Youth ODIs, a mark he could hit faster than his peers, following Shubman Gill and Unmukt Chand, who achieved it in 13 and 17 innings, respectively. Should he reach this milestone, Suryavanshi would become the seventh Indian player to surpass 1000 runs in U19 ODIs.

Most Runs for India in Youth ODIs:

  • Vijay Zol – 1404 runs
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal – 1386 runs
  • Tanmay Srivastava – 1316 runs
  • Unmukt Chand – 1149 runs
  • Shubman Gill – 1149 runs
  • Sarfaraz Khan – 1080 runs
  • Virat Kohli – 978 runs
  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi – 973 runs

India will face the USA in the opening match of the U19 World Cup. Three matches are scheduled for today, with India looking to build on their recent 3-0 victory over South Africa in a One-Day series. Captain Ayush Mhatre will also be under scrutiny as the team aims to maintain its winning momentum.
