New Delhi: Star Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been declared fit by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), according to media reports. Iyer is cleared to participate in the One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand, set to commence on January 11.

Iyer recently resumed competitive cricket, scoring an impressive 82 runs off 53 balls for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on January 6 during a match against Himachal Pradesh. He had been sidelined due to a spleen injury sustained during the third ODI in Australia in October 2025, which required hospitalization in Sydney before he returned to India.

Following his recovery, Iyer spent 10 days at the BCCI CoE as part of his rehabilitation program. However, his exact travel plans to Vadodara for the ODI series remain uncertain. According to a report from Cricbuzz, both Iyer and Rishabh Pant are expected to join the Indian team later as they will participate in the final league stage matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for their respective teams, Delhi and Mumbai, on January 8.

Morne Morkel, who provided updates on Iyer’s condition, mentioned, “I spoke to Shubman two days ago just to check in with him, and he is recovering well. Shreyas has also started his rehab, which is great. So, we are looking forward to welcoming them back into the squad. The good thing is that they are healthy and are starting their preparation on their way back into the team.”

Iyer has been included in India’s ODI squad for the series against New Zealand as the current vice-captain, although his participation was contingent on fitness clearance, which he has reportedly now received.
