Police in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district have launched an investigation after a woman accused the husband of a BJP councillor of raping her, filming the assault, and blackmailing her into silence for nearly six months.

The accused, identified as Ashok Singh, is married to a councillor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a Nagar Parishad in the district.

According to a written complaint submitted this week to Satna Superintendent of Police Hansraj Singh, the woman alleged that around six months ago, Singh forcibly entered her home, raped her at knifepoint, and recorded the assault on his mobile phone.

She further alleged that he threatened to kill her and her family if she disclosed the incident.

The complainant said Singh allegedly used the video to blackmail her and continued to harass and intimidate her over the following months.

She claimed that on December 20, Singh again approached her, sexually harassed her, and threatened to make the video public if she did not comply with his demands.

In her complaint, the woman also alleged that Singh regularly visited her shop, verbally abused her, and issued threats, creating an atmosphere of fear that prevented her from coming forward earlier.

Meanwhile, police are verifying the authenticity of a video that has surfaced online, purportedly showing Singh dismissing the woman’s threat of filing a police complaint.

In the clip, he is allegedly heard saying, “What will happen to me? Nothing will happen. Complain wherever you want.”

Police officials said the video is being examined as part of the investigation.

Superintendent of Police Hansraj Singh said the probe has been transferred to Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Trivedi, who will lead the investigation.

“All evidence, including the viral video, is being verified. Necessary action will be taken based on the findings,” the SP said.

The woman also claimed that she had approached the police five days ago, but alleged that no immediate action was taken, prompting her to escalate the matter to senior officials.

Reacting to the allegations, BJP spokesperson Shivam Shukla said the party has no connection with the accused.

“The accused doesn’t belong to the party. Whoever the accused is, if they are involved in any crime, the law will take its own course,” he said.

Police said further action will follow after the completion of the preliminary investigation.
