A video circulating on X depicts members of the Bajrang Dal allegedly confronting a group of Christians in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi, demanding they leave the area due to accusations of religious conversion linked to their wearing of Santa Claus hats.
The video shows women and children donning Santa caps being approached by activists from the Hindu right-wing organization, who reportedly insisted that such activities should be conducted privately rather than in public settings. Shouts of “go” and “celebrate it in your own homes” can be heard, alongside chants of “go away.” Additional allegations claim that the activists misbehaved with women during the encounter.
This incident is part of a broader pattern, with Bajrang Dal activists frequently targeting individuals or groups celebrating Christmas or wearing Santa caps, accusing them of promoting religious conversion.
The Delhi Police, however, characterized the event as a “minor and momentary verbal disagreement.” According to reports, the incident took place on December 21 and did not result in any significant confrontation or disruption of law and order, as stated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari.
“The matter was amicably resolved on the spot by those involved. There was no escalation, and the local area remained entirely peaceful and normal,” Tiwari commented.
Police officials also noted that no complaints were filed regarding the incident, either through a PCR call or at the local police station. Preliminary investigations indicated that the issue was personal and isolated.
“There is no communal or religious angle to the incident. Any portrayal to the contrary is factually incorrect and misleading,” the police emphasized in an official statement.
