Reports indicate that a privilege motion is under consideration in the Rajya Sabha against Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury concerning a controversy involving a dog. Chowdhury stated she would address the situation when necessary and intends to respond robustly.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Chowdhury asserted, “I will see when it will be brought… I will give a befitting reply…” She highlighted broader issues, saying, “People are dying because of pollution, and no one is worried about it. BLOs are committing suicide, their families are getting destroyed, and they are not worried about them. Labour laws are being forced upon us. The Sanchar Saathi app is being forced upon us. But Renuka Chowdhury’s dog has rattled everyone. What can I say now? I will continue to take care of animals.”

The controversy began after Chowdhury brought a stray dog into Parliament on Monday, which drew objections from other MPs. According to Chowdhury, she rescued the puppy after witnessing a scooter and car collision. The puppy was wandering near the street, prompting her to take it into her car for safety. The dog remained in her vehicle and left shortly after she arrived at Parliament.

Explaining her actions to ANI, Chowdhury stated, “Is there any law? I was on my way. A scooter collided with a car. This little puppy was wandering on the road. I thought it would get hit by the wheel. So I picked it up, put it in the car, came to Parliament, and sent it back. The car left, and so did the dog. So what’s the point of this discussion?”

These incidents occur during Parliament’s Winter session, which began on December 1. The government has introduced ten new bills and plans a discussion on the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” India’s national song.

Chowdhury later remarked, “The government doesn’t like animals. What’s the harm if a small, harmless animal comes inside?” She defended the dog’s presence, stating it posed no threat and clarified, “It is not aggressive.” This statement followed remarks from BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who expressed concerns over Chowdhury bringing the dog into Parliament and called for action to be taken against her.
