The start-up, which uses robotics technology and AI-driven software, to help companies build fully-automated production lines. They also make and sell robots for industrial purposes.

Speaking to businessline, Bakthavatchalam said while the initial funds were part of a friends and family round to establish a proof of concept, the proceeds from the new round will be used to further operationalise and expand the company’s fabrication services. Xlogic Labs has to date raised $160,000 predominantly from US-based tech entrepreneurs like Tyler Cowen and Balaji Srinivasan among others

“Customers can upload their CAD files on our platform and receive an instant manufacturability analysis and pricing — a process that typically takes traditional vendors 10–15 days. Once approved, the software automatically generates a manufacturing plan and assigns tasks to our in-house robotic systems to execute the job,” he said. Xlogic Labs currently has 3 robots active including a welding robot, a metal bending robot and a proprietary multi-process robot combining almost 10 machines into one.

According to Bakthavatchalam, 60–65 per cent of the robot value is locally sourced while some components like motors, gearboxes and computing hardware is sourced from Japan, Taiwan and Germany among others.

The start-up has already received around 150 manufacturing requests, among which about 10 are from large multi-billion dollar companies.

Robot sale

The start-up also sells robots (particularly its welding robot) to other companies. Recently it sold its welding robot to India’s largest welding company Ador Welding.

Looking ahead, Bakthavatchalam said Xlogic Labs plans to enter automated beam and structural frame fabrication, designing robots to address long market lead times for machines in these segments. The start-up’s first automated structural-frame fabrication robot is expected in about six months.

“A lot of current factories require retrofitted solutions which are difficult to deploy as they are so human centred. Instead,  if you build a factory from scratch, the robotics deployment becomes much easier as you can plan and ensure it is a factory that is made to be run by robots,” he said.
