Mumbai: The Mumbai Indians have secured the services of Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur from the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, respectively. In a notable move, they have traded Arjun Tendulkar to Lucknow. Despite speculation surrounding the futures of Will Jacks and Deepak Chahar, Mumbai has opted to retain both players for the IPL 2026 season.

Last season, Mumbai qualified for the playoffs but were eliminated by Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. This year, the team has focused on strengthening its backups, as injuries plagued them throughout the previous season. After acquiring Shardul, there were expectations for Deepak to enter the auction, but Mumbai ultimately retained him, enhancing their bowling lineup alongside Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.

The franchise appears to have addressed its concerns and may seek additional Indian talent during the auction, especially a keeper-batter. Discussions took place with Sunrisers Hyderabad regarding Ishan Kishan, but these did not come to fruition. Mumbai has released Robin Minz and is looking to find a suitable replacement.
