Markets Decline as Foreign Investors Continue Selling Pressure

Benchmark indices extended their morning losses in afternoon trade on Tuesday, with the Sensex down 275.55 points at 83,702.94 and the Nifty falling 90.85 points to 25,672.50 as of 1 pm, weighed by continued foreign institutional investor selling and weakness across sectors.

The Sensex opened marginally higher at 84,000.64 against its previous close of 83,978.49 but quickly surrendered gains to trade 0.33 per cent lower. The Nifty, which closed at 25,763.35 on Monday, opened at 25,744.75 and was trading 0.35 per cent down at the afternoon mark.

Broader markets mirrored the weakness, with the Nifty Midcap 100 declining 0.22 per cent to 60,135.60, while the Nifty Next 50 fell 0.36 per cent to 70,225.15. Sectoral indices showed mixed trends, with Nifty Bank dropping 0.42 per cent to 57,840.60 and Nifty Financial Services down 0.20 per cent at 27,246.15.

Market breadth remained negative, with 2,323 stocks declining against 1,637 advances on the BSE, while 208 stocks remained unchanged. A total of 125 stocks hit 52-week highs, while 68 touched 52-week lows. Some 164 stocks were locked in upper circuit, while 134 hit lower circuit.

Among Nifty stocks, Titan emerged as the top gainer, surging 2.59 per cent to ₹3,820.80, followed by Bharti Airtel, which climbed 1.87 per cent to ₹2,112.70. HDFC Life added 1.26 per cent to ₹745.25, while Bajaj Finance gained 0.87 per cent to ₹1,052.20 and SBI Life rose 0.68 per cent to ₹1,983.

On the losing side, Power Grid led the decliners, falling 2.78 per cent to ₹280, followed by Bajaj Auto, which dropped 2.14 per cent to ₹8,732. Eicher Motors declined 1.92 per cent to ₹316.40, Tata Motors shed 1.70 per cent to ₹409.90, and Tata Consumer Products fell 1.67 per cent to ₹1,177.50.

Markets will remain closed on Wednesday for Guru Nanak Jayanti. Trading activity continues to be influenced by foreign institutional investor outflows, which totalled ₹1,883 crore on November 1, marking the fourth consecutive session of selling.
