India Wins Women’s World Cup 2025, Claims Historic ICC Title
New Delhi: India concluded its Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign with a remarkable victory over South Africa in the final, ending a long quest for an ICC title. The Indian women’s team triumphed by 52 runs, marking the first time an Asian nation has been crowned ODI champions.
In the final, hosted at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, India set a challenging target of 298 runs for the Proteas, aided by significant contributions from Shafali Verma, who scored 87, and Deepti Sharma, who added 58 runs. Both players also made significant impacts with the ball, with Shafali taking two wickets and Deepti capturing five, leading to South Africa being bowled out for 246.
Head coach Amol Muzumdar played an instrumental role in the team’s transformation, guiding them from their failure to qualify for the semifinals in the 2022 ODI World Cup to their victorious campaign in 2025. Appointed in October 2023, Muzumdar has been a pivotal figure in the team’s success as part of the support staff.
Prior to the match, Muzumdar delivered an inspiring pep talk that has since gained traction on social media. He urged the team to “cut the outside noise” and “write their own story.”
“For the next seven hours, we cut out all the noise. We create our own bubble here,” Muzumdar stated. He emphasized the importance of focusing on their performance: “You will write your own story tonight. Let’s stay in that bubble for the next seven hours. Let’s create history.”
With this landmark victory, India not only celebrated a historic achievement but also set a standard for aspiring teams on the global stage.
