The Nifty India Defence index experienced a 0.36 percent increase, reaching 8,164.85 points during afternoon trading on Monday, with an indicative close at 8,166.60—up 31.38 points from the prior close of 8,135.20. The index began the day at 8,148.75 and hit an intraday peak of 8,185.75.
Zen Technologies was the leading gainer, soaring 4.71 percent to ₹1,421.10, and became the third most active stock by value with a trading volume of ₹173.04 crore. Astra Microwave Products rose 2.87 percent to ₹1,072.20, while Solar Industries increased by 1.82 percent to ₹14,131.00.
Bharat Electronics was the most actively traded stock, recording a turnover of ₹1,017.88 crore despite a slight decline of 0.99 percent, settling at ₹421.90. Hindustan Aeronautics contributed ₹187.11 crore in trade, showing a marginal gain of 0.13 percent to reach ₹4,686.00. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders advanced 0.65 percent to ₹2,746.80, generating ₹141.53 crore in turnover.
The sector achieved a total trading value of ₹2,150.74 crore, with 298.73 lakh shares exchanged. Out of the listed stocks, thirteen experienced gains while five saw declines. MTAR Technologies was the top loser, dropping 3.07 percent to ₹2,470.00.
Over the past week, the defence index has yielded returns of 0.46 percent, 7.21 percent over three months, and 24.81 percent year-to-date, indicating robust investor interest in the sector.
