IT Stocks Propel Sensex Surge: Infosys and TCS Shine on October 23

These developments, coupled with corporate earnings and favourable macroeconomic indicators, have contributed to a broad-based rally.

After rallying over 860 points in early trade, Sensex traded 677.38 points or 0.80 per cent higher at 85,103.72 at 1.27 pm (scaling to an intraday high of 85,290.06).

Nifty 50 gained 183.00 points or 0.71 per cent to 26,051.60, after hitting an intraday high of 26,104.20. Both midcap and smallcap indexes traded with marginal gains.

All sectoral indices except oil & gas traded in the positive territory. Nifty IT index surged over 3 per cent, leading the chart, with major companies like Infosys, HCL Technologies, and Tech Mahindra posting notable gains.

Top gainers & losers

Shares of Infosys, HCL Tech, TCS, Shriram Finance and Tech Mahindra led the gainers of Nifty 50, while Eternal, Bharti Airtel, IndiGo, Eicher Motors and Adani Ports dragged the most.

Bajaj twin shares & Axis Bank shares hit 52-week high

A total of 3,114 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange, of which, 1,527 stocks advanced, 1,495 stocks declined, and 92 stocks remained unchanged. Nearly 115 stocks, such as Aditya Birla Capita, Apollo Hospitals, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance and AU Small Finance Bank, scaled to their 52-week high, while 26 stocks declined to their 52-week low. Additionally, 79 stocks hit the upper circuit limit, whereas 35 stocks hit the lower circuit limit.

Vodafone Idea among most actively traded stocks

Vodafone Idea, Yes Bank, IDFC First Bank and The South Indian Bank were among the most traded equities on the NSE.

Bharat Forge, Vodafone Idea, Bank of India, IDFC First Bank and Waaree Energies gained 3-5 per cent under the mid-cap segment, while Godfrey Phillips, Muthoot Finance, Fortis Healthcare, Tata Communications and Dixon Tech depreciated 3-6 per cent.

Smallcap stocks such as Sagility, Zensar Tech, Bandhan Bank, Trident and Newgen soared 3-5 per cent, while Hindustan Copper, Poonawalla Fincorp, MRPL, Anand Rathi and Anant Raj fell 2-4 per cent.

On the BSE, Birlasoft, Garware Hi-Tech, Vardhman Textiles, Shipping Corporation and Arvind rallied 7-9 per cent. Godfrey Phillips, Inox Green, Share India Securities, Avalon and Chennai Petroleum dragged 3-6 per cent.

Shares of Hindustan Unilever, Colgate Palmolive, Laurus Labs, Vardhman Textiles, Tata Teleservices, Sagar Cements, PTC India Financial Services and more will remain in focus today due to quarterly results.
