A private bus traveling to Hyderabad caught fire near Chinnatekur in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals, a police official confirmed. The incident occurred following a collision with a two-wheeler, which was also involved in the accident.

The motorcycle collided with the bus and became trapped underneath, with its fuel cap left open, igniting the flames. Among those deceased was the motorcyclist.

Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 40 passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the collision. Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Koya Praveen informed PTI that 19 passengers, including two children and the two drivers, managed to escape the incident.

The bus door became jammed due to electrical issues, and within minutes, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. Most of the survivors were reported to be between the ages of 25 and 35.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance.
