Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team were stalked, and one of them was allegedly touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking from their hotel to a café in Indore, ahead of their Women’s Cricket World Cup match.

Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, saying, “Two members of the Australian women’s team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a café in Indore.”

The players immediately informed the team’s security manager, Danny Simmons, who contacted local security liaison officers. A vehicle was arranged for their safety.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the players, recorded their statements, and initiated legal proceedings.

An FIR was registered at the MIG Police Station under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The accused, identified as Akil Khan, has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.

According to police reports, the incident took place on Thursday morning along Khajrana Road, when the players were walking to a nearby café. A man on a motorcycle followed them and allegedly touched one of them before fleeing the scene.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) condemned the incident, calling it “unfortunate,” and said it would review safety protocols for the tournament.

The BCCI Secretary, Devajit Saikia, expressed his displeasure over the entire incident and praised the State Police for its swift action.

Meanwhile, Australia, currently topping the points table, will face South Africa in their final group-stage match at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Saturday. The winner will meet India in the semi-finals.

The group stage of the Women’s World Cup 2025 concludes on Sunday with the India vs. Bangladesh match. The semi-finals are scheduled for October 29 and 30, and the final will be played on November 2 at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
