A 47-year-old restaurant owner in Ranchi was shot dead last Saturday night after a customer allegedly lost his temper over being served non-vegetarian biryani instead of the vegetarian dish he had ordered. According to police, the incident occurred at Chowpatty Restaurant in Kanke area.

The accused, Abhishek Kumar Nag, had purchased a takeaway meal and left. Upon reaching home, he reportedly discovered that the biryani contained meat and called the restaurant owner, Vijay Kumar Nag, to confront him about the wrong order.

Local accounts suggest that Abhishek returned to the restaurant soon after, where an argument broke out. In the midst of the altercation, he allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Vijay in the chest. The victim collapsed instantly, and the accused fled the scene. Vijay was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

News of the murder spread quickly, sparking tension in the locality.

On Sunday morning, angry residents and relatives of the deceased blocked the Kanke Pithoria Road, demanding the immediate arrest of the killer. Rural Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar said that a probe had been launched and multiple police teams were conducting raids to track down the accused.

“We are verifying CCTV footage from the restaurant and surrounding areas to confirm the shooter’s identity,” TNIE quoted.

Officer-in-charge of Kanke police station Prakash Rajak added that the body had been sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem.

Police said the accused remains absconding but will be arrested within 24 hours. The situation in the area remains tense.
