Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge Faces Threats After Proposing RSS Ban on Government Properties

Days after Karnataka’s Minister of IT-BT and Rural Development, Priyank Kharge, called for a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its activities on government properties, he reported receiving threatening phone calls. On Wednesday, he shared a video on X, featuring a man using abusive and derogatory language against him.

Kharge described the video as indicative of the threatening and vulgar calls he has been receiving, stating that it is a reflection of the “filth the RSS is trying to fill in the minds of young people.” He questioned whether such insults towards women are part of the training at RSS branches (Shakhas), inquiring if BJP leaders like BY Vijayendra, R Ashoka, C T Ravi, Sunil Kumar, Prathap Simha, and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy condone such language towards the mothers of Modi and Mohan Bhagwat.

While highlighting the disparity in opportunities, Kharge remarked that the children of BJP leaders are securing better futures while the youth from poorer backgrounds are manipulated to intimidate others. He expressed reluctance to file a formal complaint, fearing repercussions for the individual making the threats while those instigating such behavior would face no consequences.

“Our struggle is not against individuals but against the toxic mentality propagated by the RSS, opposing the nefarious forces brainwashing the youth,” Kharge asserted. He advocated for exposing these RSS affiliates to the teachings of figures like Buddha, Basava, and Ambedkar to combat divisive ideologies.

He vowed to work diligently to protect innocent children and youth from such harmful influences, stating that threats and insults would not deter him. “This is not merely politics driven by power; it is ideological and people-centric politics aimed at uplifting the innocent youth,” he added.

Kharge noted that the abusive calls targeted not only him but also his family and other senior Congress leaders, allegedly from RSS workers. Following these incidents, he contacted the Home Ministry to request action against those responsible for the threats. The Karnataka Home Minister subsequently assured him that necessary measures would be taken.

On October 14, Kharge posted on X: “For the past two days, my phone hasn’t stopped ringing. Calls filled with threats, intimidation, and the filthiest abuse directed at me and my family, simply because I dared to question and restrain RSS activities in government schools, colleges, and public institutions. But I’m neither shaken nor surprised. When the RSS didn’t spare Mahatma Gandhi or Babasaheb Ambedkar, why would they spare me? If they think threats and personal jibes will silence me, they are mistaken. This has just begun. It is time to build a society founded on the principles of Buddha, Basavanna, and Babasaheb, rooted in equality, reason, and compassion and purge this nation of the most dangerous viRuSS.”
