The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified its criticism of the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government following allegations of a gang rape involving a medical student in the Paschim Bardhaman district. BJP leaders accused the administration of creating an unsafe environment for women, attributing the issue to what they described as a “deliberate policy of appeasement.”

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Mamata has turned Bengal into a safe haven for rapists and criminals.” Additionally, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya highlighted the public outrage triggered by the incident in Durgapur, emphasizing that “Bengal is not safe for women.” He called for accountability from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), asserting, “Until TMC government is held accountable, women across the state will continue to live in fear. Mamata must go in 2026.”

The statements from BJP leaders underline their broader criticism of the TMC government regarding law and order issues in West Bengal.
