Punjab Government Unveils Initiative for Round-the-Clock Power Supply

The Punjab government has initiated the ‘Roshan Punjab’ mission, a significant project aimed at providing affordable, round-the-clock electricity across the state within a year. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that the initiative seeks to eliminate power cuts and ensure an uninterrupted power supply to households, agricultural operations, and industries. “No factory in Punjab will have to pause for electricity. No farmer will be left in the dark,” Mann stated.

The government has allocated ₹5,000 crore, marking the largest investment in Punjab’s power sector to date. These funds will be directed towards upgrading transmission lines, repairing outdated infrastructure, and constructing new substations to enhance the electricity supply network.

To secure a consistent power generation, the government has arranged a long-term coal supply from the Pachhwara mine and has taken control of the GVK Thermal Plant, ensuring that power generation falls under state supervision.

In urban areas, the government has launched a campaign across 13 municipal corporations to eliminate hanging cables, secure open meter boxes, and improve public safety. Additionally, a new 180-seat call center in Mohali has been established to optimize the 1912 helpline for prompt grievance resolution.

Mann emphasized that the ‘Roshan Punjab’ mission is intended to make Punjab self-reliant in power and lay the groundwork for a “brighter future” for its residents.
