The Assam government has established a one-man inquiry commission, led by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the formation of the commission on Friday.

Garg, 52, passed away on September 19 in Singapore while swimming. His unexpected death has shocked millions of fans across Assam and beyond, leading to a widespread outpouring of grief.

While two autopsies—one conducted in Singapore and another in Assam—have been performed, authorities have yet to find any evidence of foul play directly related to Garg’s death. His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, later stated that the artist “suffered a seizure attack” while in the water.

Despite this clarification, lingering questions and uncertainties continue to provoke speculation around the incident. In connection with the investigation, four individuals have been arrested, including Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organiser of the Singapore Northeast Festival, as well as Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma and two members of his band, Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta.

The inquiry aims to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the singer’s passing.
