NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in his Mann Ki Baat broadcast on Sunday, highlighting several topics including the forthcoming centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the promotion of Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti, and the efforts to get Chhath Puja recognized by UNESCO.

In his 125th address, PM Modi commended the RSS for its contributions to society. “The spirit of selfless service and lesson of discipline are the true strengths of the Sangh,” he stated. He honored the organization’s founder, KB Hedgewar, and his successor, Guru Golwalkar, for fostering a spirit of national service. Additionally, he emphasized that RSS volunteers are frequently among the first to respond during natural disasters.

Discussing cultural festivals, PM Modi remarked that Chhath Puja epitomizes India’s rich traditions and culture. He announced the government’s initiative to have the festival included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. “When this happens, people across the world will be able to witness the festival’s grandeur and divinity,” he added. Notably, Kolkata’s Durga Puja has already been recognized on this prestigious list.

The Prime Minister also called on citizens to support indigenous products by purchasing Khadi items on October 2. “Say with pride, this is swadeshi,” he urged, noting that Khadi sales have seen significant growth over the past 11 years.

Furthermore, PM Modi engaged in discussions with two women naval officers, Lieutenant Commander Dilna and Lieutenant Commander Roopa, who participated in the Navika Sagar Parikrama. He also paid tribute to Bhagat Singh and legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on their respective birth anniversaries, highlighting their lasting inspiration for the Indian populace.
