Bumrah’s Clever Comeback to Kaif’s Injury Advice During Asia Cup 2025

India’s fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has responded to former cricketer Mohammad Kaif’s recent critique regarding his bowling strategy during the ongoing Asia Cup. Kaif suggested that Bumrah is opting to bowl three overs in his initial spell as a precaution against injury.

In a tweet on X, Kaif noted that Bumrah, at 31, typically bowled the first, 13th, 17th, and 19th overs when Rohit Sharma led the T20I team. He raised concerns that under Surya’s captaincy, Bumrah’s choice to deliver three overs upfront could potentially disadvantage India in future matches against stronger teams in the T20 World Cup.

Kaif argued, “Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in the Asia Cup, he bowled a three-over spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up. One over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters; against stronger teams at the World Cup, this could hurt India.”

Bumrah, however, took issue with Kaif’s assessment, labeling it “inaccurate.” He succinctly wrote, “Inaccurate before inaccurate again,” in response.

Regarding Bumrah’s performance in the tournament, he has struggled to find his rhythm. In the match against Pakistan on September 21, he conceded 45 runs but bounced back by taking two wickets against Bangladesh a few days later. Overall, Bumrah has claimed only five wickets in four matches during the Asia Cup, with an average of 22. While these figures may appear reasonable, his position as the 14th highest wicket-taker in the tournament falls short of the high standards he consistently sets for himself.
