Freya Davies Retires from Professional Cricket to Pursue Legal Career

New Delhi: Freya Davies, the 29-year-old cricketer from England, has announced her retirement from professional cricket to embark on a career in law as a solicitor.

Davies, who represented Sussex, played 26 WT20Is and 9 WODIs for England between 2019 and 2023. The right-arm fast bowler was also part of the Welsh Fire team in the Women’s Hundred.

In a statement regarding her retirement, Sussex detailed her impressive journey in cricket. “Freya Davies has announced her retirement from cricket at the age of 29,” the club noted.

“She debuted for Sussex in 2010 at the age of 14 in a T20 match against Middlesex, with her 50-over debut following two years later against Somerset. An integral member of the 2013 Sussex team that won the County Championship, she made a total of 86 appearances for her home county,” the club added.

The statement went on, “Freya enjoyed a successful cricket career, having been a significant contributor to England since her call-up in 2019. Although she has not played for Sussex recently, she excelled while representing London Spirit, Welsh Fire, Southern Vipers, and Hampshire.”

As she concludes her remarkable cricketing career, Sussex extends their best wishes for her future.

Davies made her England ODI debut against Pakistan in December 2019 and went on to earn eight additional ODI caps, taking 10 wickets in total. Her T20I appearances amounted to 26, where she captured 23 wickets. Her last appearance for England occurred in July 2023 during a T20I match against Australia in the Women’s Ashes at home.
