NEW DELHI: India has expressed deep concern regarding Israel’s recent military operations in Doha, condemning the violation of Qatar’s sovereignty. Speaking at the United Nations, Indian representative Arindam Bagchi stated, “India firmly believes that differences must be resolved peacefully through dialogue and diplomacy in full conformity with the principles of the UN Charter and international law.”

Bagchi further emphasized India’s anxiety over the attacks in Doha, highlighting their potential impact on regional security. “Such actions threaten peace, stability, and security not only in the region but across the world,” he said. He reiterated India’s commitment to promoting peace, stability, and opposing terrorism in all its forms.

He urged for restraint and diplomacy, insisting on the importance of maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. “We call upon the international community to remain united in efforts towards maintaining and upholding the rule of law,” he added. “As a close partner, India reiterates its solidarity with Qatar and its people.”

Last week, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi communicated with Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, to express concern over the attacks in Doha. Modi condemned the “violation of the sovereignty” of Qatar, advocating for the resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy while discouraging any escalation. He reaffirmed India’s support for peace and stability in the region and opposition to terrorism.

The Israeli military recently conducted air strikes in Doha, targeting Hamas leaders, an operation referred to as “Summit of Fire.” Witnesses reported explosions in the city and significant smoke over the Katara district. In response, Qatari authorities branded the raids as a “cowardly assault” against residential buildings housing Hamas leaders, warning of possible dangerous escalations.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the operation was “wholly independent” and executed by the Israel Defence Forces alongside the Israeli Security Agency.
