The domestic market experienced a recovery today, buoyed by investments in auto and banking stocks, amidst optimism regarding ongoing India-US trade negotiations. Investors are also anticipating the outcome of the US Federal Reserve’s policy meeting later this week.
At 12:36 PM, the Sensex rose by 436.30 points, or 0.53 percent, reaching 82,222.04, after touching an intraday low of 81,779.94. The Nifty 50 increased by 129.55 points, or 0.52 percent, to 25,198.75, approaching the 25,200 mark.
The smallcap index outperformed the midcap index, advancing by 0.80 percent compared to the latter’s modest 0.26 percent gain. Most sectoral indices registered gains, with media, auto, and banking sectors leading the rally, while healthcare and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors saw declines.
Top Gainers and Losers Intraday
Among the Nifty 50 constituents, notable gainers included Kotak Mahindra Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, JSW Steel, and NTPC. Conversely, Shriram Finance, Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Finance, Titan, and Nestle emerged as the major laggards.
A total of 2,980 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of reporting, with 1,935 advancing, 938 declining, and 107 remaining unchanged. Notably, 79 stocks, including Amber, Axiscades, Dalmia Bharat, and Aadhar Housing Finance, reached their 52-week highs, while 16 stocks hit their 52-week lows. Furthermore, 84 stocks, including Reliance Power and Steelcast, were locked in the upper circuit, while 12 faced the lower circuit limit.
Midcap and Smallcap Movers
Within the midcap segment, GMR Airport, Tata Consumer Products, Bharti Hexacom, MRF, and Mahindra Finance surged by 2-4 percent. In contrast, stocks such as Max Healthcare, Ola Electric, Vodafone Idea, BSE, and MFSL fell by 1-2 percent.
In the smallcap category, Aegis Logistics, Godfrey Phillips, Aadhar HFC, Tejas Networks, and Neuland Laboratories led with gains ranging from 4 to 8 percent. However, JBM Auto, HBL Engineering, Brigade Enterprises, Titagarh Rail, and Welspun Corp experienced declines of 2-3 percent.
On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), shares of Redington, Aegis Logistics, Godfrey Phillips, Force Motors, and Vaibhav Global surged by 6-16 percent. Conversely, Indraprastha Medical, JBM Auto, Yatharth Hospital, GMDC, and IIFL CAPS faced downturns.
