Mahindra’s Advisory on E20 Fuel Usage for Vehicles
Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) recently announced that its petrol vehicles are fully compatible with E20 fuel, following an advisory issued to both customers and dealers. The company reassured users that all petrol engine models produced after April 1, 2025, have been specifically calibrated for optimal performance with E20 fuel.
In its statement, Mahindra emphasized that it will uphold all warranty commitments related to the usage of E20 fuel. Vehicles manufactured prior to this date may still be driven safely; however, drivers might notice slight variations in acceleration or fuel efficiency due to varying driving habits.
According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of the Automotive Division, all Mahindra vehicles are suitable for use with both E20 and E10 fuels. He urged customers not to be concerned about potential issues related to vehicle safety, warranties, or other challenges associated with using E20.
Performance of Older Models
Gollagunta also clarified that vehicles manufactured before April 1, 2025, cannot be re-calibrated for E20 due to government regulations. As a result, these older models may experience reduced performance when using E20 fuel, as they are not specifically calibrated for it.
He explained, “While driving older vehicles is entirely safe, there may be a noticeable decline in either acceleration or fuel efficiency because they lack the necessary calibration for E20 fuel.”
This advisory comes in light of the government’s push towards using more environmentally friendly fuels, aiming to facilitate a smoother transition for automakers and consumers alike.
In summary, Mahindra assures the safety and reliability of its vehicles with E20 fuel but advises caution for those driving models produced before the calibration date.
