BJP MLA Compares AAP Leader Atishi to Surpanakha, Critiques Arvind and Manish’s Political Futures

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Gajendra Yadav utilized references from the Ramayana to criticize Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal and leaders Atishi and Manish Sisodia. Yadav likened Atishi to ‘Surpanakha’, who managed to survive while her brothers Ravan and Kumbhakarna were defeated in the epic.

India Today reported Yadav’s statement on Friday, where he remarked, “In Ramayana, Ravan and Kumbhakarna were slain, but Surpanakha survived. In a similar vein, during the Delhi elections, although Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia saw their political trajectories falter, Atishi emerged victorious. She is akin to Surpanakha.”

Gajendra Yadav asserted that the recently concluded Delhi Assembly Elections marked a downturn for Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia’s political fortunes. He compared Atishi to “Surpanakha”, noting that she is among the few AAP leaders who succeeded in the Delhi assembly elections.

On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta criticized AAP, referring to them as a “dharna party”. She stated, “Atishi and the other AAP MLAs displayed banners even before we swore in, demanding when we would provide ₹2,500 to women. They have the audacity to question us when they have failed to deliver on similar promises in Punjab.”

‘AAP legislators exist solely to lament’: Yadav

The BJP leader intensified his criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party, asserting that AAP MLAs merely express grievances and protest whenever the BJP attempts to introduce beneficial reforms.

“AAP legislators have been elected solely to weep and protest whenever we endeavor to bring about positive change. They are like rudali,” Yadav commented.

The term ‘rudali’ refers to a professional mourner and is associated with a customary practice commonly found in Rajasthan.

Previously, Atishi was the target of remarks from BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, who referred to the former Delhi CM as a “deer roaming in the forest”.

“The people of Delhi are suffering in the streets… just look at the condition of the streets… Atishi has never gone out to meet the people. But now, during election season, she roams the streets of Delhi like a deer in the jungle,” Ramesh Bidhuri said during a rally for the Delhi Election campaign in January.
