On February 26, 2025, the Indian stock market will be closed in observance of Mahashivratri. Trading activities across various segments such as equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowings (SLB), currency, and interest rate derivatives will not take place on this day. This marks the first holiday on the 2025 calendar, with a total of 14 trading holidays scheduled for the year.

Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will resume their operations on February 27, 2025. Throughout the year, the stock market will operate on all weekdays, excluding public holidays announced at the beginning of the year. It remains closed on weekends, except for special occasions such as the presentation of the Union Budget, as was the case on February 1, 2025.

In the latest trading session, the indices saw early gains after initially starting flat. The Sensex was trading at 74,719.09, up 264.68 points or 0.36%, while the Nifty 50 rose by 45.05 points or 0.2% to 22,598.40 at 10.03 am.

On the previous trading day, the equity benchmarks saw a significant decline, with the Sensex closing at 74,454.41 and the NSE Nifty 50 ending at 22,553.35.

The stock market will resume its operations as usual following the Mahashivratri holiday, with business returning to normal on the next trading day.
