SpinSci Health Tech India, a US-based digital healthcare solutions company, is set to expand its workforce by hiring 1,000 skilled AI professionals for its development centre in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Ciana Health, a healthcare startup, has introduced a face-reading app powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that can provide key health parameters within seconds. In addition, two Hyderabad-based healthcare startups, Vigocare and Monitra, have launched adhesive patches that can monitor cardiac vitals and instantly share the data with healthcare providers.

A senior endocrinologist has been working on creating a ‘digital twin’ for diabetics to help them better manage their sugar levels. The study, published in Nature, has garnered significant interest within the medical community.

Additionally, Jivi ai, a one-year-old large language model, has developed a chatbot that aims to streamline consultations and other medical services for both doctors and patients.

The integration of AI in healthcare is no longer a distant possibility but a reality with various AI-led solutions across different specialties and devices. However, caution is advised as malicious entities are also enhancing their AI capabilities.

Dr. Ravi Sankar Erukulapati, a senior endocrinologist at Apollo Hospitals, highlighted the benefits of AI in understanding and managing chronic conditions like diabetes. His ‘digital twin’ project for diabetics showcased notable improvements in participants’ health outcomes.

Despite the advantages offered by AI in healthcare, challenges such as the scarcity of data to train machines and understand disease patterns persist. Startups in the healthcare sector face difficulties in developing products and solutions due to the unstructured nature of the industry.

Recognizing the need for data access, the Telangana government has decided to provide healthcare startups with access to hospital resources to develop proof-of-concept for their ideas. However, concerns regarding data privacy in the healthcare sector remain.

Moreover, with the rise in cyber threats within the Indian healthcare sector, organizations are urged to enhance their cybersecurity measures. Aaron Bugal from Sophos emphasizes the immediate risk posed by cybercriminals targeting healthcare institutions and underscores the importance of multi-layered, AI-powered defense strategies.

Sundar Balasubramanian from Check Point Software Technologies echoes the significance of AI in boosting cybersecurity in healthcare. He warns against AI-powered ransomware attacks and advises healthcare institutions to adopt advanced security measures to protect patient data and infrastructure.

In conclusion, the integration of AI in healthcare brings immense potential for innovation and improved patient outcomes. However, it is crucial for organizations to address cybersecurity challenges and prioritize data privacy to ensure the effectiveness and security of AI-driven healthcare solutions.
