BIJAPUR: In a significant operation, security forces in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, have successfully neutralised eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), each weighing five kilograms, on Wednesday. The IEDs, which had been planted by Maoist rebels, were found during a patrolling mission on the road from Mutvendi to Pidia within the jurisdiction of Gangalur police station, as reported by Bijapur Police.

A specialised team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Bijapur, supported by personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and various other units, undertook this operation. The team managed to destroy the IEDs safely, thereby bolstering the area’s safety and security.

“During a recent operation aimed at area domination and demining, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team from DRG Bijapur, in collaboration with BDS Bijapur, along with the 85th and 199th Battalions of CRPF and Cobra 205 and 210, conducted thorough patrolling in the area. Their diligent efforts resulted in the detection and recovery of eight IEDs, each weighing 5 kg, planted by Maoists along the route from Mutvendi to Pidia,” stated Bijapur Police.

The team effectively executed the safe destruction of these IEDs at the site, contributing to the enhanced safety and security of the region.

The IEDs were equipped with a pressure switch system designed to inflict harm upon police personnel. The Maoist group is experiencing substantial setbacks due to the ongoing efforts of the security forces. In retaliation to these losses encountered over recent months, the Maoists have resorted to planting IEDs on internal access routes and footpaths, posing risks not only to security forces but also occasionally affecting local civilians and wildlife.

Thanks to the vigilance and intelligence of the deployed security forces, the malicious plans of the Maoists are continually being thwarted. The security teams are committed to preserving peace and security in the area.

Simultaneously, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, on Tuesday, reiterated the government’s firm stance against Maoism, labelling it a societal affliction. Commenting on a recent encounter in Gariaband where the bodies of 16 Naxals were recovered, he commended the achievements of the security forces in countering the Maoist menace, underlining the government’s dedication to eliminating Naxalism within the state.

In response to these developments, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the security forces’ endeavors, describing the action as a “powerful strike” against Naxalism. He stated, “Once again, a strong blow has been dealt to Naxalism. Our security forces have made remarkable progress towards the goal of a Naxal-free India. The CRPF, along with the Special Operations Group of Odisha and Chhattisgarh Police, neutralised 14 Naxalites in a collaborative operation along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. With our unwavering commitment to a Naxal-free nation and the collective efforts of our security forces, Naxalism is nearing its end.”
