The 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games is set to take place in Glasgow, with some major changes in the lineup of sports. Cricket, hockey, and badminton will not be featured this time, disappointing Indian fans who were hoping for medal prospects in these events. The decision to drop these sports was confirmed by the CWG Federation in a recent statement.

Glasgow has stepped in as the host city after Victoria withdrew earlier this year due to financial concerns. The games will feature a total of 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, netball, weightlifting, boxing, judo, bowls, and basketball. The venues for the games will be Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Emirates Arena, and the Scottish Event Campus.

The Chief Executive of Commonwealth Games Scotland, Jon Doig OBE, expressed his excitement about Glasgow hosting the games in 2026. He emphasized the unique and accessible nature of the event, promising a memorable experience for athletes and fans alike. The Commonwealth Games have a special place in the hearts of athletes worldwide, and Glasgow is ready to showcase its famous hospitality to visitors from all corners of the Commonwealth.
