Uncovering the Truth: Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’ vs. Divya Khossla’s ‘Savi’

The Bollywood film ‘Jigra’ starring Alia Bhatt has been at the center of controversy since its release. Producer and actor of another film ‘Savi’, Divya Khossla, accused the makers, including Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt, of copying their film. While Alia and Karan stayed silent, fans engaged in heated debates on social media. The burning question remained: Is ‘Jigra’ a copy of ‘Savi’?

There are indeed some similarities between the two films, both revolving around a female protagonist saving someone close to them. In ‘Savi’, a housewife succeeds in freeing her husband from a high-security jail, while in ‘Jigra’, Alia’s character embarks on a mission to save her brother. Although there are scenes with disheveled hair and guns in both films, the overall narrative and character portrayals differ significantly.

Divya Khossla defended her film by stating that ‘Savi’ drew inspiration from the mythological tale of Savitri and Satyavan. She acknowledged the similarities but emphasized that every film has its own unique journey. However, claiming ‘Savi’ as the first of its kind may be overlooking previous female-centric films like ‘Gupt’.

It is essential to note that both ‘Jigra’ and ‘Savi’ are not entirely original in their plots. ‘Jigra’ seems more reminiscent of the film ‘Gumrah’, while ‘Savi’ is a Hindi remake of the Hollywood movie ‘The Next Three Days’, itself inspired by the French film ‘Pour Elle’. This indicates that both films have drawn inspiration from existing sources rather than presenting entirely fresh storylines.

In conclusion, while the similarities between ‘Savi’ and ‘Jigra’ may raise eyebrows, it is essential to recognize that borrowing elements from existing films is not uncommon in the movie industry. Each film has its own unique narrative and interpretation, making them distinct in their presentation and execution.
