A 23-year-old woman has accused a man and his associates of kidnapping, gang-raping her, and coercing her into marriage following an alleged forced conversion to a different religion in Jamia Nagar, southeast Delhi, according to police reports cited by the Press Trust of India (PTI).
Four of the six suspects, including one woman, have been arrested. The main accused remains in Dasna jail in Ghaziabad due to a separate case. The police revealed that the accused initially befriended the victim through social media using a false identity.
The woman reported the crimes to authorities on May 14, stating she was abducted and compelled to marry the main accused after converting her religion. She further alleged that she was sexually assaulted multiple times between 2021 and 2025.
In response to her allegations, police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, which include kidnapping, rape, criminal intimidation, wrongful confinement, and criminal conspiracy. Investigators are also looking into the main accused’s potential involvement in illegal gun trading; however, no firearms have been recovered during the ongoing raids.
According to police officials, a transit remand for the principal suspect has been secured, and he is set to be brought to Delhi for additional questioning. Police teams plan to revisit the alleged crime scenes to reconstruct the events that transpired.
