New Delhi: The T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to commence on February 7, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. In the lead-up to this significant event, Zimbabwe Cricket has announced the appointment of former West Indies cricketer Courtney Walsh as their new bowling consultant.
According to a statement from Zimbabwe Cricket, Walsh has already commenced his role as the bowling consultant. A renowned figure in his playing days, Walsh aims to positively influence the players as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.
“I think we have a very good chance once we execute well and work together as a team and adapt to the conditions. The combination of the attack has impressed me from watching, and the potential that’s within the team,” Walsh stated, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Zimbabwe is expected to field a strong bowling lineup in the World Cup, featuring pacers Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, and Tinotenda Maposa, alongside all-rounders Brad Evans and Tashinga Musekiwa. They will be supported by spinners Wellington Masakadza, Graeme Cremer, and Sikandar Raza.
Following Walsh’s appointment, Zimbabwe Cricket’s managing director, Givemore Makoni, emphasized the significance of leveraging Walsh’s expertise. “As we prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, it was important for us to bring in someone who understands what it takes to succeed on the global stage. Courtney’s knowledge, professionalism, and ability to mentor players will be invaluable as we sharpen our bowling resources for the challenges ahead,” Makoni remarked.
