Guwahati: Rajasthan Royals extended their successful run in the current Indian Premier League season with a convincing victory over Mumbai Indians at Barsapara Stadium. The Royals won an 11-over shootout by 27 runs, showcasing a commanding performance from the very start.
Sent in to bat first by Mumbai, Rajasthan’s batters exhibited aggressive intent. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi propelled the scoring, surpassing 50 runs in just 2.4 overs. Sooryavanshi scored 39 runs off 14 balls, hitting Jasprit Bumrah for two sixes during their notable confrontation before being dismissed.
Jaiswal continued to lead the charge, receiving some support from Riyan Parag, who contributed 20 runs off 10 balls. Rajasthan surged past 100 runs in only 7.4 overs, with Jaiswal eventually reaching an unbeaten 77 off 32 balls, culminating the first innings at 151 runs.
For Mumbai, Allah Ghazanfar emerged as the standout bowler with figures of 2 for 21 in two overs, while Shardul Thakur added one wicket to MI’s tally. Bumrah, however, had a challenging outing, conceding 32 runs across three overs.
In response, Mumbai faced immediate challenges in their run chase and found themselves in dire straits, losing five wickets for fewer than 50 runs. Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger excelled with the new ball, while Sandeep Sharma dismissed Rohit Sharma for the sixth time in his IPL career.
Despite a brief recovery, with Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford adding 47 runs in just 17 deliveries, the momentum shifted once the partnership was broken. Every bowler from Rajasthan picked up at least one wicket, with three achieving two wickets each.
This victory marked the Royals’ third consecutive win, propelling them to the top of the points table. Mumbai Indians concluded their innings with 123 runs for the loss of nine wickets, well short of their target of 151 runs.
