New Delhi: South Africa secured another narrow victory in the Women’s World Cup 2025, overcoming Bangladesh in their fourth match on Monday, October 13.

Chasing a target of 233 runs, South Africa found themselves in a precarious position at 78 for 5, losing key players from both the top and middle order. However, a remarkable counterattack from the lower order turned the tide. Marizanne Kapp, Chloe Tryon, and Nadine de Klerk played pivotal roles, leading South Africa to a three-wicket win at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Kapp contributed 56 runs off 71 balls, and Tryon scored 62 runs from 69 balls, partnering to add 85 runs for the sixth wicket, which significantly steadied the innings despite Bangladesh’s resurgence with wickets. With the score at 198 for 7 and 35 runs required from the final five overs, de Klerk stepped up, finishing with a brisk 37 runs from 29 balls to secure the win, replicating her crucial performance against India.

After the match, South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, acknowledged the match’s intensity, stating, “That was a lot closer than we would have liked it to be. But, yeah, I’m glad we got the points in the end. Tried to stay as patient as we could when the team was under pressure.”

Wolvaardt also recognized the effectiveness of Bangladesh’s bowlers: “I know they have some really skilful spinners. We were just trying to build a partnership and bat for as long as we could. Unfortunately, we lost wickets early. But the partnership between Kapp and Chloe was amazing, just to get us back into the game. And Nadine at the end there.”
