New Delhi: The India Women’s cricket team celebrated a historic achievement by winning the World Cup 2025, securing the first ICC title for the Women in Blue after a decisive victory against South Africa in the final held in Navi Mumbai. This win marked the end of a prolonged wait for a trophy, bringing joy to fans and players alike after a series of near misses in previous tournaments.
The triumph resonated across the nation, as supporters gathered to witness the long-anticipated lift of the ODI World Cup trophy at DY Patil Stadium, with millions tuning in to celebrate the momentous occasion. India’s journey in World Cups began in 1978, and they had previously finished as runners-up in 2005 and 2017. The latter loss particularly stung due to its narrow margin. However, the 2025 victory has transformed past disappointments into well-deserved triumph.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed a desire for more success, emphasizing the need to establish a winning culture within the team. As the squad looks forward to future challenges, fans are eager to know when the Women in Blue will next take the field.
According to the ICC Future Tours Programme (FTP), India will tour Australia for an all-format series starting February 15, 2026. This tour will consist of three T20 Internationals, three One Day Internationals, and a single Test match, concluding on March 9. Following the Australian tour, the team will participate in the Women’s Premier League, which will include international players. Subsequently, India will engage in a three-match T20I series in England from May 28 to June 2.
The next major target for the Indian women’s cricket team is the Women’s T20 World Cup, set to take place in England from June 12 to July 5. This tournament will feature 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy.
In her post-match comments, Kaur articulated the team’s ambition, stating, “This is the start; we wanted to break the barrier, and now our next plan is to make it a habit. We were waiting for this moment; now the moment has come. Next year also there is a World Cup and then the Champions Trophy, so many big events coming up, and we just want to keep improving every day, just want to keep giving our best.”
