New Delhi: Washington Sundar achieved a significant milestone during the 14th match of IPL 2026, contributing to the Gujarat Titans’ thrilling one-run victory over the Delhi Capitals. Sundar, batting at number four, helped the Titans set a formidable target of 210 runs for four wickets in their 20 overs. This match marked Sundar’s first half-century in the IPL, an achievement nearly 3,273 days in the making, as he finally surpassed the elusive 50-run mark.
Last season, Sundar narrowly missed his maiden fifty with scores of 48 and 49. On Wednesday, he reached the milestone in his 69th IPL match, having debuted in the league with the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Throughout his IPL career, Sundar has played for four franchises. After starting with RPS in 2017, he spent four seasons with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru before moving to the Sunrisers Hyderabad for three seasons from 2022 to 2024. Since joining the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, he has excelled, accumulating 200 runs in eight innings from just 130 deliveries, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 153.84, featuring 19 fours and nine sixes.
Sundar appears motivated to build on his recent success as the Titans continue to support him in the number four position.
In the match itself, the Gujarat Titans faced off against the Delhi Capitals in a nail-biting contest that went down to the last delivery. After opting to bat, Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sundar all contributed fifties, propelling their team to a total of 210 runs. The Capitals made a strong chase led by KL Rahul, who scored 92 runs off 52 balls. David Miller also played a crucial role, adding 41 runs during the death overs; however, they fell just short, losing by a single run.
