Virat Kohli Tops ICC ODI Batters Ranking

Rajkot: Star India batter Virat Kohli has reclaimed the top position in the ICC ODI batting rankings after a remarkable series. Following a challenging period in which reports suggested that the Australia series may be his last in international cricket, the 37-year-old demonstrated his prowess by achieving five consecutive scores of over 50 runs. This performance has allowed him to surpass teammate Rohit Sharma and occupy the number one spot for the 11th time in his career.

In the opening game of the series against New Zealand, Kohli scored 93 runs, elevating him from second to first in the rankings. His consistent performances have likely solidified his place for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup. Kohli aims to maintain this momentum and dispel any lingering doubts regarding his future in the format.

Conversely, Rohit Sharma’s opening match contribution of 26 runs resulted in a drop to third place, particularly following Daryl Mitchell’s strong performance, which saw him score 84 runs in the same match. Despite Mitchell’s efforts, New Zealand was unable to secure the win as India successfully chased down the 301-run target set in Vadodara.

ICC ODI Batters Ranking:

  1. Virat Kohli – 785
  2. Daryl Mitchell – 784
  3. Rohit Sharma – 775
  4. Ibrahim Zadran – 764
  5. Shubman Gill – 725
  6. Babar Azam – 722
  7. Harry Tector – 708
  8. Shai Hope – 701
  9. Charith Asalanka – 690
  10. Shreyas Iyer – 682

In the second ODI, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first. Shubman Gill confirmed that the Indian team had intended to bat first and welcomed the decision, noting that there was no dew during practice the previous night.
