Dharmendra, the renowned actor often referred to as Bollywood’s original “He-Man,” passed away on Monday morning at his residence in Mumbai at the age of 89.

Family sources and initial media reports indicate that the veteran actor had been facing health issues for some time prior to his death, which occurred at home surrounded by family members.

His funeral took place at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, where many prominent figures from the film industry gathered to pay their last respects.

Born on December 8, 1935, Dharmendra leaves behind a remarkable legacy. Over a career that spanned more than six decades, he appeared in over 300 films, ranging from intense action dramas to romantic comedies, thus significantly influencing the cultural landscape of India.

His iconic performances in films such as Sholay, Phool Aur Patthar, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, and Yaadon Ki Baaraat are embedded in the collective memory of millions. Dharmendra’s unique charm, blending strength and vulnerability, established him as an actor capable of leading both mainstream blockbusters and critically acclaimed projects.

In recognition of his extensive contributions to cinema, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2012. Additionally, Dharmendra served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha for the Bharatiya Janata Party, representing Bikaner in Rajasthan from 2004 to 2009.
