New Delhi: Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has been elected as the new president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The election took place on December 7, with Prasad leading the Team Game Changers to victory over KN Shanth Kumar, who was part of a panel supported by Brijesh Patel.
A significant focus of Prasad’s panel is to restore cricket matches to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, including both Indian Premier League (IPL) games and matches for the Indian national team. The stadium has not hosted mainstream matches following a stampede incident that occurred during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL title celebration in 2025.
Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, visited the stadium to cast his vote, expressing his commitment to revive cricket at Chinnaswamy. “I will not allow IPL matches to be shifted out of Chinnaswamy Stadium. This is a question of Bengaluru and Karnataka’s pride. We will ensure IPL matches are held here. I am a cricket fan, and we will take steps to prevent such incidents in the future while upholding the stadium’s reputation. Additionally, we will construct a new cricket stadium as an alternative,” Shivakumar stated, as reported by Cricbuzz.
Following his election, Venkatesh Prasad shared his thoughts on X, expressing gratitude for the opportunity. He emphasized his commitment to bringing both IPL and international cricket back to Chinnaswamy and supporting the growth of Karnataka cricket at all levels. “Humbled to take on the responsibility as KSCA President. Committed to bringing IPL and international cricket back to Chinnaswamy, and to working for the growth of Karnataka cricket at all levels. With teamwork, transparency, and dedication, we will get there. Thank you to every member who placed their faith in me,” Prasad tweeted.
